2nd Annual Tank Awards

"Very well produced."

date: March 6, 2009

When I saw that this was in the judgement phase, I suddenly remembered that the awards were due today, and was absolutely exhilarated. Despite the fact that I wanted to know the winners, I didn't really expect much. After opening the file, I was positively surprised. Whilst I was just expecting an interactive movie, seeing Tom walking on to a stage was what finally made me realize that this was much more than a simple interactive menu. The cropping was very well done, and I know how tedious cropping images out can be, it must be insanely frustrating to do it for a full-length video. I liked the background, and the arch in the background actually made me think about the Stargate series, although I'm unsure if the likeness was intended or not.

As a whole, I think that the choices were accurate, and although I didn't agree with any of the ones for animations, both of those were close seconds to my favourites, as they're both brilliant Flashes. I haven't heard much of the winner of the best audio artist award, though if it was him of whom produced the background music for that section, then he certainly is talented. I'm pretty glad that ReNaeNae won the best user award, and I'm sure that a lot of users will as well.

Well, that's all. 5/5, 10/10.

"Quite Strange"

submission: LessThanThree

A very nice animation; the style was quite different to most animations that I have seen before, which worked pretty well with the concept of the animation. You picked the audio track very well; so that was a good idea on your behalf.

The only things that could improve it was to make what was happening slightly more clear; as I didn't quite understand it.

Very nice, 3/5 and 8/10.

I really enjoyed the surreal animation, although I do dislike the background song, to be honest. You picked the colours well, and there was some great contrast. Well done with smoothing out the characters, too. The characters were very simple but still quite effective. Very nice, 8/10 and 3/5.

Carbonwater vs. BillDing

"Very nice."

date: January 25, 2009

-CarbonWater's Animation-

Very well animated, humorous and smooth. The sound was well synchronized and it was extremely funny. The repetition of the 'No, jazz is like...' and then constant changes was well written and very nice. Overall I'd say 4.5/5.

-BillDing's Animation-

To be honest, not original at all. The animation was all right, but extremely simple, and a very unoriginal style. It's seriously annoying to see the amount of video game parodies in this recycled style. 2/5.

Shell- EP1 (incompletion)

"Beautiful."

date: January 24, 2009

I opened this without expecting anything at all, but after watching it for just a few seconds I was truly amazed. You have added some high quality artwork together with smooth, sleek animation and suiting sounds, and it really payed off. The character design was very well done, and the main character was very cute and it seems that it may become a well-cherished character in the future. Something that I really loved about it was the waterfall, and how realistic you made it seem.

This truly deserves this nine out of ten; and the four out of five I gave it too.

Thank you.

Epic Randomness

"To be honest; very bad."

submission: Epic Randomness
date: January 23, 2009

Firstly, all of the animation is obviously just a normal video imported into Flash, as you can see by how visible the individual pixels were and that there is some space at the sides with no content at all.

The actual animation is very low quality and is little more than a badly drawn face with the voice of a nine year old speaking with no body movement at all. The lip-sync was very low quality, too, and didn't really resemble what was really being said. The things that were actually being said weren't really funny at all, so I'd recommend working on the humour side of it, too.

Sorry 'bout the quality...I saved it as an .avi file and loaded it all onto Windows Movie Maker to edit and I converted it to .swf but it is flash....and im not nine

This Game is a Joke 2

"A pretty humorous concept."

date: January 8, 2009

Well, the actual concept of this Flash is pretty humorous, I take that it's a parody of some of the other games that have little plot. The graphics were actually very well made, and you included greatdetail, which was great. The physics were also verry nice, and I didn't find any bugs at all with them. It's amazing that you've created something great in such a little time, I couldn't make anything anywhere near as good as this if I had a month and no distractions. It didn't take long to complete at all, so I would suggest creating a few more stages to it. I also think that when you've consumed the substances, the gameplay would vary slightly, maybe a different affect for each one, though that might be quite hard to program. Anyway, I really thought you did a great job with this, well done.

"A pretty fullfilling test."

submission: Typo| (fixed)
date: December 29, 2008

Firstly, I watched and voted (five, by the way) when this was in judgement, though I didn't get around to reviewing it at that time. It was only today when I was scouring through my favourites that I saw it and decided to re-take the test and write a review.

The concept of a Flash application that tests your typing speed and accuracy is quite unoriginal, though this Flash was executed brilliantly and I completely loved the feel of it. The three modes were all actually quite original despite the Flashes' concept being the opposite. The first mode was nice due to the fact that it was image based, the second because of the physics of the falling letters were very high quality and the third since it relied on accuracy more than speed. It had a good few extra bells and whistles that helped it along nicely like the fact that you could change the background colour and pattern whenever you wished.

The third level was actually quite easy to cheat, since you could highlight and delete with the delete key as well as overwriting the letter with another. I don't know how to prevent people from overwriting letters but you can quite easily disable the delete key, all you'd need is the keycode for it and some simple AS.

Thank you.

And by the way, I got an A without cheating the third level, and even when I tried cheating it, I finished with a similar result.

Being a Helpful NG'er

"A fine tutorial."

date: December 25, 2008

I have to say that this is one of the most useful tutorials I have seen on Newgrounds. I watched it when it was first released and at that time I really needed to improve on my reviews and BBS posts, if you checked my posts at around that time you would see why. This Flash really was helpful and was what inspired me to join the NGPD and (just several days ago) the NGDD. Although there wasn't much of them, the graphics were well made and set out well. If you two are going to be carrying on making these flashes or similar I would like to contribute to them as much as possible as I found them so helpful. If one of you want to carry on though the other doesn't just try to contact me via PM or user page.

I feel that there could be a section on each of the NG forums to help people post their threads in the right section, as just not telling people to post their threads into the right section may not be enough for many users, they might want extra information on each of the boards. I would also suggest making small updates, maybe once a month, nothing more.

A genuinely beautiful flash. The lights caught me in a daze and I just sat here smiling at it. The character art was well done and reminded me of the video games I played as a very small child. You deserve this ten and even more, I salute you.
